Reach Out to "Someone"

GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY

Are you ‘Someone’?

A few years ago, a Radio and TV journalist entitled her first book: Are you Someone? based on a question a total stranger put to her. The point of her book was that each of us is a ‘someone’ regardless of what our role in life is.

The Good shepherd goes after the someone’

Each one of us was commissioned at Baptism to be a shepherd and to carry out that task Pope Francis, in a letter to the whole church this week asked for only one thing from us, that is, to be holy!

A Warning to would-be shepherds

He warns against ‘know-alls’ who have their knowledge from books alone and against “DIY Catholics” who believe they have found the way and feel duty bound to correct and dismiss those who are not of their ilk. He bases his new charter for holiness on very simple formulae from the Beatitudes which are as follows:

Being indifferent to whatever comes: that is holiness.

Reacting with meekness and humility: that is holiness.

Knowing how to mourn with others: that is holiness.

Working for what is right and just: that is holiness.

Seeing and acting with mercy: that is holiness.

Loving with a pure heart: that is holiness.

Sowing peace all around us: that is holiness.

Suffering for what is right: that is holiness.

I INVITE YOU TO ADOPT A BEATITUDE FOR GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY JUST FOR THAT ‘SOMEONE’ IN YOUR LIFE TODAY.
